Ingredients
1cup Toor dal
1.25 cups water to cook dal
1 large onion thinly sliced
1 chopped tomato
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
Chopped coriander leaves
Salt to taste
For the tempering:
4tsp ghee
1 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp jeera
curry leaves
Pinch of hing
Generous amount of turmeric powder
5-6 Methi seeds
1 broken red chilli
5-6 crushed garlic cloves
Procedure
Pressure cook dal with water for 2-3 whistles, once the pressure releases mash it well
Soak tamarind in water
Heat ghee in a vessel add mustard, when it starts crackling add hing, methi seeds, jeera and red chilli
Add onions and saute till they are half done
Add chopped tomatoes, green chillies, turmeric powder and salt
Saute till tomatoes become mushy
Add red chilli powder and fry for a minute
Add the tamarind pulp,1 cup water, when it comes to boiled mashed dal, adjust the salt
Bring it to boil and simmer for 2 mins
Add coriander leaves and serve hot with rice, ghee and papad.
