Andhra Pappu Chaaru





Ingredients


1cup Toor dal

1.25 cups water to cook dal

1 large onion thinly sliced

1 chopped tomato

1/2 tsp red chilli powder

Chopped coriander leaves

Salt to taste


For the tempering:

4tsp ghee

1 tsp mustard

1/2 tsp jeera

curry leaves

Pinch of hing

Generous amount of turmeric powder

5-6 Methi seeds

1 broken red chilli

5-6 crushed garlic cloves




Procedure


  • Pressure cook dal with water for 2-3 whistles, once the pressure releases mash it well

  • Soak tamarind in water

  • Heat ghee in a vessel add mustard, when it starts crackling add hing, methi seeds, jeera and red chilli

  • Add onions and saute till they are half done

  • Add chopped tomatoes, green chillies, turmeric powder and salt

  • Saute till tomatoes become mushy

  • Add red chilli powder and fry for a minute

  • Add the tamarind pulp,1 cup water, when it comes to boiled mashed dal, adjust the salt

  • Bring it to boil and simmer for 2 mins

  • Add coriander leaves and serve hot with rice, ghee and papad.
