Avalakki Murukku

Ingredients

1/2 cup thick poha/ dappa avalakki

1/4 cup fried gram/ putani/hurigadale

1 bowl of rice flour

1 tsp ajwain/ Carrom seeds

1 tsp jeera/cumin seeds

1 tsp white sesame seeds/til

1/2 tsp black pepper powder

1 tsp salt

1 tbsp butter

Hot water to knead the dough (approximately 1 1/2 cups)




Procedure

  • Put poha and fried gram in a pan and dry roast for 5 minutes or till it turns crisp.

  • Powder it in a mixer jar once it comes to room temperature. Seive the powder and put it in a bowl.

  • Add the other ingredients and mix well. Now add the water gradually and knead it into a soft dough.

  • Heat oil in a pan. Put the prepared dough in a chakli maker and make murukku directly in hot oil.

  • Deep fry the murukku till it turns crisp and golden brown in color.

  • Store them on absorbent paper in an airtight container once it comes to room temperature.
