Pulimunchi is very popular in and around Mangaluru, South Kanara District. As the name itself says it is a tangy, spicy fish curry, which tingles your taste buds. You can substitute mackerel with chicken or prawns. this spicy curry goes well with hot boiled rice.
Ingredients
4 nos Mackerel fish
8 garlic cloves crushed
2 sprigs of fresh curry leaves
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
3 tbsp coconut oil
For the masala paste:
8 Byadgi red chillies soaked in warm water for 10 mins
1 tsp coriander seeds/ Daniya
1/2 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds 5 methi/ fenugreek seeds
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
Gooseberry size tamarind
Dry roast Daniya, jeera, methi, mustard and grind it with soaked red chillies, tamarind into a fine paste
Procedure
Heat oil in a pan, curry leaves, and crushed garlic in the oil till you get a nice aroma
Now add the ground paste and fry until oil leaves the sides of the pan
Add salt to taste, place the cleaned fish pieces, little water and cook till the fish is cooked
Serve hot with rice, idli or dosa.
