Basale Soppu is also called Malabar Spinach in English and Vaali in Konkani. Basale is the Kannada word for Malabar spinach. In Karnataka (Karavali and Malnad regions)this is used to make saaru/sambar/ambat/bendi etc...Its leaves and tender stems are also used in curries.This leafy veggie is rich in iron, This dish HASI is just like any raita with curd and coconut masala.

Ingredients
1 cup finely chopped basale soppu
1/2 onion chopped
1/2 cup curd
1/2 cup grated coconut
1 green chilli
2 tsp sesame seeds (til)
Salt to taste
2 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard
curry leaves
1 red chilli
Procedure
Cook the chopped leaves with 1/4 cup water and salt till soft and make it cool
In 1/2 tsp oil roast sesame seeds and green chilli
Grind coconut, roasted green chilli and sesame seeds into a fine paste
Add this paste to cooked, cooled leaves
Add curd, salt to taste
Temper with mustard, curry leaves and 1 red chilli
Goes well with rice.
