Malabar spinach /BasaLe Soppu as we call it in Kannada is very nutritious and has many health benefits. You can add this in dal, make curries, tamblis , stir fry, etc. This mosaru bajji tastes awesome with hot rice in hot summer.
Ingredients
1 cup finely chopped basaLe soppu / VaaLi / Malabar spinach (use only leaves)
Salt to taste
1/2 cup curds
For the masala paste:
1/2 cup fresh coconut gratings
1/2 green chilli
1/4 tsp jeera/ cumin seeds
Salt to taste
Grind the above ingredients into a smooth paste adding little water. (like chutney)
For the tempering:
2 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard
1 sprig of curry leaves
1 tsp urad dal
1 dry red chilli bits
Pinch of hing/ asafoetida
Procedure
Take chopped Basale soppu in a vessel, add a little salt and 1/4 cup water.
Cook it till the leaves become tender and soft. Once it is cooked turn off the flame and let it cool.
Once it becomes cool, add the masala paste, curds and mix well. Adjust the consistency according to your taste.
Temper it with the ingredients mentioned. Serve chilled with rice.
