Bhindi ka Saalan





Ingredients


250 gms bhindi / Lady's fingers/ okra

6 tsp oil

1 tsp mustard

Curry leaves

1 finely chopped onion

1/2 tsp tamarind paste

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

2 tsp red chilli powder

1 tsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp cumin powder

Salt to taste

Chopped coriander leaves


For the masala paste:

2 tbsp dry roasted peanuts

2 tbsp dry roasted sesame seeds/ til

3 tbsp dry or fresh coconut roasted till light brown

Grind the above-roasted ingredients into a fine paste



Procedure


  • Wash and wipe the bhindis, cut the ends and cut into 2-inch pieces

  • In a pan heat 1 tsp oil add the cut bhindis with 1/2 tsp salt and saute till it is cooked

  • Transfer it to a bowl, add the remaining oil to the same pan, put mustard

  • Once the mustard starts crackling, add curry leaves, chopped onions and saute till it becomes transparent

  • Add the masala paste and all the spice powders one by one

  • Saute for 2 mins, add tamarind paste, salt to taste and 1/2 cup water

  • Add the roasted bhindis and let it boil for 5 mins

  • Check for the salt and turn off the flame, garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with Rotis.
