Gonva Kano Chana Dal Khichdi

This is a traditional Konkani dessert, prepared with Gonva kano /Broken wheat and Chana dal/ Bengal gram.




Ingredients


1 cup broken wheat/daliya

1/2 cup chana dal(Bengal gram)

1 cup sugar

1.5 cups fresh grated coconut (only white part)

2 tsp cardamom powder

Cashewnuts, raisins, and almonds for garnishing

3 tsp ghee




Procedure


  • Dry roast both daliya and dal separately for 10 minutes and cook in a cooker with 3 cups of water for 4-5 whistles or till it becomes soft

  • Transfer it to a kadayi , add sugar, coconut, and make it boil for 10- 15 minutes and till it comes to a semi-solid consistency.

  • Add cardamom powder, nuts, and ghee and mix well

  • Serve hot with fresh ghee.
