This red chutney is easy to make and does not require coconut. This Red chutney can be made hot or less hot, depending on the number of red chilies used. for a deeper red color use Kashmiri red chilies. The chutney also has a garlic flavor to it and is slightly sour due to tamarind.
Ingredients
8-10 dry red chillies (Byadgi or Kashmiri)
1 big onion finely sliced
6-8 garlic cloves
Gooseberry size tamarind
2 tsp oil
Salt to taste
Procedure
In a pan heat oil, roast onion slices. Once it turns light brown add the red chillies, garlic cloves, and roast for 2-3 minutes.
Turn off the flame and let it cool.
Grind the roasted ingredients with tamarind and salt, adding little water.
Use this chutney to spread on masala dosa. you can also serve this with idli or any other dosa.
