Lemon Rasam




Ingredients


1/2 cup toor dal

2 finely chopped tomatoes

1 tsp jeera/cumin seeds

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp rasam powder (optional)

1 lemon

Salt to taste

Chopped coriander leaves


For the tempering:

4 tsp oil

1 tsp mustard

2 sprigs of curry leaves

3-4 slit green chillies

5 crushed garlic cloves





Procedure

  • Wash toor dal and cook in cooker with 2 cups water, turmeric powder, jeera and chopped tomatoes, Cook for 4-5 whistles

  • Heat oil in a Kadai, put mustard, once it starts crackling add curry leaves, green chillies, crushed garlic, fry for a second

  • Add cooked dal, water if needed, salt to taste and rasam powder, lemon juice. Let it boil for 5-10 mins

  • Turn off the flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves

  • Serve hot with rice, drizzled with ghee.
