Matodi Palya is basically a dry stir fry made from soaked lentils with a choice of veggies in it. It is common in Brahmin’s home. In this recipe, I have used raw bananas. Tastes awesome with rice and dal or rasam.
Ingredients
1 raw banana/baalekayi
4 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard
1 tsp urad dal
1 sprig of curry leaves
1 dry red chilli
Salt to taste
1 tsp lemon juice
For the masala paste:
3 tbsp coconut gratings
1/4 cup chana dal (soaked in water for 30 minutes)
2 green chillies
1/2 tsp turmeric / Haldi powder
1 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
Make a coarse paste, without water and keep it aside.
Procedure
Wash and peel the banana and cut it into small cubes, put in the water to avoid turning brown.
Heat oil in the pan, add mustard. Once it starts crackling, add curry leaves, red chilli, urad dal. Saute for a second.
Add chopped banana, salt to taste. Add 1/4 cup water and cook with a lid covered.
Once the banana is cooked 80% add the ground masala paste.
Give a good mix and cook further till the banana cooks well.
add the lemon juice and mix again. Turn off the flame.
Serve hot with rice and dal.
