Mavinkaayi Tambli

Tambuli or Tambli is a type of Raita eaten in the Indian state of Karnataka. Tambuli, being a curd-based cuisine, is consumed with rice. Tambuli is derived from the Kannada word thampu. Thampu meaning cool/cold. So Tambuli is a cooling food.





Ingredients

1/4 cup fresh coconut gratings

2-3 tblsp chopped raw mango

1/2 green chilli

2 tsp white sesame seeds / til

1/2 tsp oil

Salt to taste

1/2 cup buttermilk


For the tempering:

1 tsp oil

1 tsp mustard

Curry leaves

1 red chilli cut into bits


Procedure

  • In 1/2 tsp oil fry sesame seeds and green chilli and grind with coconut gratings, salt, chopped raw mango pieces

  • Make a smooth paste adding little water

  • Transfer the ground paste to a bowl, add buttermilk and water if needed

  • Adjust the consistency according to your taste

  • Add the tempering and serve with rice.
