Moong Dal Rasam






Ingredients

1/2 cup moong dal/ Split yellow lentil

2 cups water

2 finely chopped tomatoes

1 inch crushed ginger

1/2 tsp turmeric/Haldi powder

Salt to taste

Chopped coriander leaves

1 tsp lemon juice


For the tempering:

2 tsp ghee

1 tsp mustard

2 tsp cumin seeds/jeera

2-3 slit green chillies

Pinch of Hing / asafoetida powder

Few curry leaves





Procedure

  • Wash moong dal and cook in cooker with 2-3 cups of water, chopped tomatoes, Crushed ginger and turmeric powder. Cook for 2-3 whistles.

  • Heat ghee in a pan, add mustard. Once it crackles, add curry leaves, jeera,hing and slit green chillies. Saute for a second.

  • Now pour the cooked dal, tomato mixture into the pan. Add water and adjust the consistency as per your taste.

  • Add salt to taste and let it boil. After 5 minutes, turn off the flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice.

  • Serve hot with steamed rice.
