Mulik / Jackfruit Fritters

Mulik / Jackfruit fritters is a delicacy from Udupi, Mangalore. Ponsa Mulik in Konkani is sweet jackfruit fritters, which are crisp on the outside and soft inside. You can store these for up to a week and can be enjoyed as a snack, at any time of the day. These are perfect to satisfy your sweet cravings.







Ingredients

10-12 jackfruit segments /halasina soLe

1/4 cup semolina / Fine rava

1/2 cup dosa rice

1/2 cup coconut gratings

1/2 cup powdered jaggery (or to taste)

Pinch of salt

Oil for deep frying




Procedure

  • Soak rice in water for one hour. Deseed the jackfruit segments and finely chop them, keep them aside.

  • Wash the soaked rice and drain out all the water completely.

  • Take the mixer jar, first grind coconut gratings, salt, and jackfruit segments

  • Make a fine paste without adding any water. Now add jaggery powder and blend for a minute, add soaked rice, and grind it into a smooth to a little coarse paste.

  • Transfer the batter to a bowl, add semolina and mix well. Keep aside for 10 minutes.

  • Heat oil in a pan, take a small portion of the batter, shape it into round balls, and drop into the hot oil.

  • Repeat with the remaining batter. Deep fry the fritters on low flame till they turn crisp.

  • Transfer the fried fritters to an absorbent paper. Serve hot and enjoy.
