Prawns in Coconut Milk






Ingredients

15 prawns cleaned and deveined

5 tsp coconut oil /any cooking oil

1 tsp mustard

1 tsp jeera/cumin seeds

1 sprig of curry leaves

1 slit green chilli

2 finely chopped onions

1 finely chopped tomato

1 tsp ginger garlic paste

1 tsp red chilli powder

1/2 tsp coriander/ dhania powder

1/2 tsp turmeric/ Haldi powder

1/4 tsp pepper/ kali Mirch powder

1/2 tsp garam masala powder

1/2 cup coconut milk

Salt to taste

Chopped coriander leaves


Marinate prawns with:

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp turmeric/Haldi powder

1/2 tsp red chilli powder

Keep aside for 20 minutes.




Procedure

  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard. Let it crackle. Add jeera, curry leaves. Saute for a second.

  • Add chopped onions, a little salt and saute till they turn transparent.

  • Tip in the chopped tomatoes and cook till they turn mushy. Add ginger-garlic paste and fry till the raw smell goes off.

  • Now add all the spice powders and saute for a minute. Drop in the marinated prawns, coconut milk and salt if needed.

  • Give a stir and let it boil for 5 minutes or till the prawns are done.

  • Turn off the flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

  • Serve hot with ghee rice or appam, idiyappam, dosa or idli. Also tastes yummy with steaming hot plain rice.
