Taikilo or Cassia Tora leaves or Chegate soppu is often seen only in monsoon season. We prepare varieties of dishes with these leaves like taikile muddo / steamed dumplings, Taikile tambli, Taikile sanna polo / spicy dosa, etc. All these dishes go well with rice and dalithoy.
Ingredients
2 cups taikilo/Tora leaves washed and finely chopped
1/2 cup dosa rice
1/2 cup toor dal
1/4 cup roasted urad dal powder(dry roast urad dal and make fine powder)
12 long red chillies
1 tbsp coconut gratings
Pinch of hing/asafoetida
Pinch of tamarind
Salt to taste
Procedure
Soak rice and toor dal for 1n hour or two, wash well and drain all the water.
First grind red chillies, tamarind, hing, salt and coconut gratings. Next, add rice and dal mixture and grind it to a slightly rava consistency. add very little water while grinding. The batter should be thick like dal vada batter.
Transfer the batter into a bowl, add roasted dal powder, chopped Tora leaves and combine well.
Make lemon size balls and slightly flatten them, keep on a plate.
Heat oil and drop the fritters in hot oil.
Fry them on a medium flame till they turn crisp and brown.
Transfer them on absorbent paper.
Serve hot fritters with rice and dal.
