Tomato Bellulli Kharam /Tomato Thokku

Tomato Bellulli Kharam chutney is one of the most commonly used items as a side dish for idli, and dosa You can also have this with hot rice, topped with ghee. Very simple and easy chutney recipe that you can prepare in 20 minutes.







Ingredients

6 ripe tomatoes

3 tbsp oil
2 tsp mustard
2 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
3 tsp urad dal
3 tsp chana dal
1/2 tsp turmeric powder/ haldi
1o to 15 garlic cloves
2 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp salt
2 slit green chillies
Few curry leaves



Procedure

  • Wash Tomatoes and chop finely, and keep them aside.

  • Put garlic cloves, red chilli powder and salt in a small mixer jar and make a coarse paste without adding water.

  • Heat oil in a pan, and add mustard. Once it crackles add chana dal, urad dal and jeera, and fry till they turn golden brown in colour.

  • Add chopped tomatoes and cook till they turn mushy and oil leaves the sides of the pan.

  • Add turmeric powder, slit green chillies, curry leaves and ground garlic, red chilli powder mix.

  • Give a good mix and cook further for another 10 minutes or till the oil leaves the sides of the pan.

  • Check for the salt and turn off the flame. Store in an airtight jar and keep in the fridge.

  • Enjoy with dosa, idli or rice.
